Maestro Pak and Mendelssohn: A Night to Remember
Shouts of 'Bravo' rang out from the audience members who attended performances of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra's "Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream ." In celebration of the 200 th year of Felix Mendelssohn's birth, the Orchestra was joined by the extraordinarily talented young violinist Jay Oh, San Diego area professional actors and the San Diego Master Chorale's Women's Chorus to perform three of Mendelssohn's beautiful works: Hebrides Overture ( Fingal's Cave) , Violin Concerto and A Midsummer Night's Dream .
Violinist Jay Oh, a former child prodigy and currently a graduate student at Juilliard School, completely wowed the audience with his passionate and beautiful rendition of the concerto, and they responded with spontaneous standing ovations at all three venues of the performances - Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla, St. Paul's Cathedral Downtown and the Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe.
Nine professional local actors performed portions of Shakespeare's play as the Orchestra and Women's Chorus performed the accompanying music which resulted in a truly memorable and entertaining conclusion to the evening.
Ticket sales have been very strong for the Orchestra this season as they head into the last two concerts of their Classics Series: "Handel: 250 Years" in April and "Beethoven: Rebel With A Cause" in May.
Tickets are also now available for The Magic of Music , a much-anticipated gala for the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, scheduled for March 28 at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa.
