San Diego Chamber Orchestra Awarded Major Grant from Pam Slater-Price and the San Diego Board of Supervisors
The San Diego Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce a grant of $45,000 from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Community Projects Grant Program at the Behest of Supervisor Pam Slater-Price. This Community Projects Grant will support the Orchestra's Classics Series of concerts in La Jolla at the Sherwood Auditorium at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.
The San Diego Chamber Orchestra offers six Classics Series concerts in three venues in the San Diego area: St. Paul’s Cathedral – Downtown, Sherwood Auditorium – La Jolla, Del Mar Country Club – Rancho Santa Fe.
The La Jolla audience has grown rapidly since Jung-Ho Pak became Artistic Director and Conductor two years ago, with the concert series close to selling out most performances. Unfortunately, ticket income, even for sold-out performances, falls far short of covering the concert expenses, so this grant will help make up for that short-fall. The grant will also support additional marketing and outreach to Young Professionals and students in the La Jolla area so they can participate in the unique music experience that the Orchestra provides.
“This grant will enable us to capitalize on the excitement that’s been building at our La Jolla venue for the past two years,” states Tyler Richards Hewes, Executive Director of the Orchestra. Hewes continued: "We are most grateful to the entire Board of Supervisors, with special thanks to Supervisor Pam Slater-Price.”
Celebrating its twenty-five years of stability, and focusing on a bright future, the Orchestra’s new vision of providing “the next generation of the classical music experience” through innovative programming, beautiful music and a total high-quality customer experience that begins with the purchase of a ticket and lasts through the last note of a concert will be expanded even more during this season of celebrations.
“Pam is well known as a supporter of the arts, and we are very grateful to her for her support of our Orchestra and for our vision of introducing a new kind of classical music experience to a whole new generation,” says Maestro Pak.
