Critically Acclaimed Soprano leads Vocal Master Class sponsored by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra

The San Diego Chamber Orchestra announces the Megan Weston Vocal Master Class to be held January 6, 2006.  Hailed as "excellent" (Opera News) and "magnificent" (KPBS), Ms. Weston first gained national attention in her San Diego Opera debut in the joint premier of Carlisle Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree.  More recently, Ms. Weston was hailed by Tulsa World for her near show stopping performance in Les contes d'Hoffmann.”Megan Weston as Olympia handled the coloratura fireworks … with thrilling ease, giving a performance that was the perfect mix of vocal control, physicality and humor.”

As part of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra’s Education and Outreach Programs, one university and two high school students, and an observing audience will be exposed to critique and training from Ms. Weston, a consummate performer on the national opera stage.  The class will be held in Rancho Santa Fe at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 6.  For more information, please call the Chamber Orchestra at 858-350-0290.

Winnie Briney, Executive Director of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, said, "We are honored to offer first class training to local music students.  Part of our mission as a musical organization is our commitment to the musical education and enrichment of local San Diegans.  Ms. Weston is particularly well suited to offering advice to local aspiring vocalists, having such a rich history of performance in San Diego herself.”

In addition to leading the January 6 Master Class, Ms. Weston joins the San Diego Chamber Orchestra on January 5, 8, and 9 for a performance of Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Copland’s Poems of Emily Dickinson conducted by Jung-Ho Pak.

The San Diego Chamber Orchestra’s performance of Poetic Pairs featuring Soprano Megan Weston and Baritone Leon Williams will take place on January 5, 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego; January 8, 7:30 pm at Sherwood Auditorium, La Jolla; and January 9, 7:30 pm at Del Mar Country Club, Rancho Santa Fe.
