Gordon Chen
Following the Asian tradition that children must begin playing a musical instrument at an early age, Gorden began piano lessons at the age of eight. Born in China, he came to the U.S. when he was five years old with his family when his father began studies for a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.
Although he stopped playing the piano when he was 16 years old, it was only two years later that he began playing again after he realized that music brought him “pure joy” and he could not live without it.
He majored in computer engineering at the University of Texas-Dallas because it was the “practical thing to do,” but music remained his passion.
He moved to San Diego and began working for high-tech companies, working for Qualcomm before his current employment with Sony as a systems engineer. www.gordencheng.com
