Hei-ock Kim
Hei-ock Kim took up rock climbing while living on the east coast and thought, "I have to move to California!" So she packed everything, drove across the country, and hasn't looked back. There has been no need - she found everything she was looking for in San Diego. In fact, as one of the three finalists in Orchestra Nova's 2010 amateur competition, The Next Star, Hei-ock currently works at Birch Aquarium at Scripps to satisfy another dream: aiding environmental and ocean conservation.
Hei-ock has been delighting audiences since her first piano recital at the age of 12. She made her orchestral debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra when she was 15, and her solo debut at Carnegie Hall in 1991 as a winner of Artists International. She has performed extensively as soloist and guest artist with several orchestras, and is an avid chamber musician.
After acquiring her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the Catholic University of America, her Masters of Music from the Juilliard School, and a Bachelor's Degree in philosophy from Princeton University, Hei-ock now mixes up playing the piano and climbing with other passions, such as sea kayaking, yoga, and home improvement.
